Please help me save Peanut Butter the puppy

This past Sunday, my husband and I went to the SPCA intent on adopting or fostering an adult dog.  Then we saw Peanut Butter, heard her story and that was it.

Peanut Butter is a 6 month old puppy who was pulled from the Frankford River by the Philadelphia Police Department on January 10th.  She was taken to the SPCA and has been there ever since, with no one claiming her.  When we saw her Sunday, we bonded instantly and fell in love with her.  She was limping, holding her back leg up, but the shelter wasn’t sure when and how that happened.  They thought it might be a sprain and Peanut Butter was due for x-rays on the leg on Monday.  So we took her home Sunday as a “foster”.  We returned on Monday night, and that’s when we received the devastating news that Peanut Butter has a broken leg.

The surgery is expensive, between $3,000 - $4,000 dollars.  The SPCA cannot afford to fix the leg, and if we turn Peanut Butter back in….well the shelter was evasive, but I’m guessing Peanut Butter wouldn’t last too long.  We can come up with some of the money but not all, and this is the part that I need your help with.  I know times are hard but we are asking for donations towards the surgery.  Every little bit helps.  This is really not my thing, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask.  We have set up a facebook page and a fundraising page on there as well.

Here are the links: Peanut Butter Smith's facebook page and the Fundrazr page to donate

I really appreciate your help and please spread the word.  If we are lucky and receive over and beyond our needs we are forwarding it to the Philadelphia SPCA.  They are very good people there who have a hard job where they make tough decisions.  They have been supportive and helpful to Peanut Butter and us.

Thank you again for all your support :)

We have a vet school that's connected to a university here where I live that has the students do these things under supervision at a reduced cost...can't donate but maybe it's something you could check out. Good luck, she looks like a sweetheart!

I so wish I could donate, but I'm getting ready to help my mom pay for her hip replacement surgery. I wish you and Peanut Butter all the best!

I feel like such a noob but the fundrazr page isn't coming up for me and I don't see any places on FB. Am I missing it? :(

Poor babe! I wish I could donate Jenny, but I have shared your post and tweeted it...I hope that helps a little. I'll be thinking of you and Peanut Butter the puppy and hoping for the best outcome. You have such a big heart and PB is lucky to have been found by you!

Have shared on Facebook and donated (not much though I'm afraid). Really hope you can find the funds or somewhere prepared to do it at a lower cost. Lovely puppy that deserves some good luck!

Donated! I hope he gets his surgery soon. I can't believe the SPCA won't find a way to fix his leg. I'll do whatever I can to spread the word. Good luck and hugs to Peanut.
Thank you so much Chris for both donating and spreading the word!!

You would think a vet or facility would donate or perform discount services for the SPCA but no, they don't. If we declined to keep PB they would either euthanize or amputate. She's too young and we can't stomach that.

PB must be spayed first, so that's happening tomorrow. And then I think a week or two from that, because she needs time to heal. We;ll find out for sure tomorrow. I will keep you posted. Thanks again and enjoy your weekend :)
If you are near Philadelphia there is a Veterinarian School that performs surgery at a lower cost. Shop around, you will get varying prices. My husband bargains with our Vet every time he takes one of the babies and he always gets a price reduction. Another Vet may not even think surgery is necessary after seeing the x-rays and case file. On the farm we always had great results with splints and duct tape for fractures, not serious breaks. Obviously you cannot do home vet care because SPCA would bust a button. During our Peace Corps service volunteers who worked with animals and livestock were issued a wonderful: 'Where There Is No Vet' by Bill Forse and 'Where There is No Animal Doctor' by Dr. Peter Quesenberry. I have read 'Where There Is No Vet' and I recommend it for anyone with pets or farm animals.
Hey Jen, I just sent you the money. You know how much I want Peanut Butter to be well! I'm praying for you all! Love and hugs!
oh poor Peanut Butter! I just donated a little something Jenny, I wish I could give more but I have a huge dental bill as of this past week :(
I'll post about this on my blog this coming week.

Question: Will paying this way link my PayPal to my Facebook?

Donated, I'm sorry it couldn't be more but I know every little bit helps. Peanut Butter looks like a little sweetheart and you know I have a soft spot for RSPCA adoptions. Bella, Callum and I are sending cuddles and get well wishes for Peanut Butter xx

This is what happens when I get way behind in my google reader! Friends need me and I'm nowhere to be found! I see from your later post that you no longer need the money and that makes me happy for you and Kona! If I friend her on FB will she be updating regularly?
