DNF Review: Everbody Loves a Hero by Marie Force

Publisher: Sourcebooks
Genre: Romance
Paperback, 416 pages
Book Source:  Sourcebooks
My Rating: None.  Did not finish ( Got to page 67)

From Sourcebooks Store:

Fame has its perks…

Reluctantly famous, First Officer Cole Langston finds being in the spotlight has its advantages—until he meets Olivia. Having women throw themselves at him everywhere he goes becomes a serious problem when he's trying to convince her she's the one…

And its price…

Olivia has trouble trusting a guy like Cole, and everywhere she turns she sees reasons to run. But he's the only man who's ever seemed to understand her as an artist and as a woman…

Cole is working overtime to prove to Olivia that he's serious, but her deep seated mistrust and his entourage of unwelcomed fans may be more than they can overcome…

Three Reasons Review:

1.) Reasons you chose this book

I was sent this book accidentally for review, but I figured it's a romance, it's February, why not?
I don't normally read "modern" romances but I'm always up to try something new.

2.) Reasons you liked or disliked this book

Olivia and Cole, our hero, meet during a chance encounter, in which Cole literally defends Olivia's honor, in quite the hero way. They meet for coffee, go out for dinner, start to learn about each other, and that's where this story went off the rails for me. Cole is 36, and Olivia is 27, but unfortunately Olivia is a super young 27. Like I thought the girl was 20 years old or something. Her behavior, her mannerisms, just Olivia in general seemed very juvenile. I figured I would just go with it. I liked Cole, and I wanted to see how this story progressed.

Then I came to a part in the story where Olivia and Cole are chatting on the phone. Olivia says something to the effect of, "I can't believe you like me. How could someone like you ever go for me? You have traveled the world and done so much, and I haven't done or seen anything." That was it for me. I can understand a woman saying these things to herself, but to say them to a guy....I just felt it screamed immaturity, vulnerability, and the whole vibe, I am helpless. I like my female characters to be strong and not necessary need this kind of saving. Therefore with the young thing and this incident, the book totally turned me off and I couldn't finish it.

Sorry but true.

3.) Reasons you are recommending this book

Always my friend, for both the honest review and link. Thanks :)
i want a stronger female character as well. It's ok when they admit to themselves certain things, but to voice them, oh no.

Thanks for your honest thoughts.

Oh no! My comment disappeared. Alas, great review :) It did stop me in my tracks to see you reviewing this one :)

Hmm, my comment and your response to it have disappeared. You asked me where to start with Robyn Carr. My answer to your question is start with Virgin River.
