Musing Mondays (March 30)

Musing Monday is hosted by Rebecca from Just One More Page. Today's musing is the following:

Do you keep track of what and/or how many books you read? How long have you been doing this? What's your favorite tracking method, and why?If you don't keep track, why not? (question courtesy of MizB)

I just started keeping track last year, because I wanted to see how many books in a year I actually read. I figured it had to be a lot, since I go through them pretty quickly and am never without a book. I started using GoodReads, and it's okay I guess. I keep my TBR list in there, and have just started copying and pasting my reviews as well. I then started to add books I read in the past, like several years ago. When I think of something, I add it.

I haven't explored Shelfari or Library Thing so I'm not sure if these are any better. However, the thought of having to re-do everything or starting from scratch is a bit unnerving. Also, Good Reads is free which enables me to buy more books or yarn. The Internet is too big not to find something that is free.

I realize, now, that since I started this book blog around the New Year, I can use it to keep track of my reading. We'll see what happens when I create the "2009 Year in Review post", if I've done a good job tracking and what not :)

So how about you? Do you keep track or not? Or are you afraid to?

You can also setup a library in Google Books. I haven't tried this yet so I don't know much about it, but it does look good.

I haven't kept up very well with Good Reads either. I like my Excel spreadsheet and keeping track on my blog.

I have put books on Library thing but keep forgetting to update it.

I kind of fell into it somewhat like you did ... it is fun to see how much you read. I thought I read a lot until I started my book blog -- there are some really dedicated readers out there!

I started keeping track of my books years ago in an Excel spreadsheet which made it easy to put into Shelfari. I exported my shelfari list to goodreads but it didn't import my ratings or dates that I read the books.

Goodreads works really well for me. I'm afraid to get too many different lists going at a time, so I've tried to keep it all at Goodreads. Like you, I add books that I know I've read when I come across them and have kept track of my reading last year and this year. I also post my reviews, really they're just my thoughts there too.

I am a member of Library Thing, but don't keep it up to date. Have not checked out Goodreads or Shelfari.

Shelfari was what started me tracking my reads, then the book reviews on my blog came after that.. so since Dec. 2007 I've kept track of all the books I read and reviewed most of them :)

I joined LibraryThing about a year ago and am pretty diligent about updating it.

I do keep track in a spreadsheet, too (why? It's more work, right .. I have to think about this and probably will drop it). I like the spreadsheet because I track publisher info, too. However, I could add that as a "tag" in LibraryThing, saving myself the extra book-keeping!

I enjoy reading all of them. Thanks again and have a great day :)
